Masks will be required on school buses starting Monday, Aug. 30

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Effective Monday, August 30, any Lexington Two student or staff member riding a school bus will be required to wear a face mask.

While the SC Department of Education had stopped enforcing the federal mask requirement over the summer, today’s increasing levels of the highly transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19 in local communities -- including in Lexington Two schools -- has prompted the SC Department of Education to again announce enforcement of the face coverings requirement to help mitigate virus transmission and keep our schools open and operating as safely as possible.

The SC Department of Education will equip all state-owned school buses with an adequate supply of face coverings/masks that meet requirements of the federal CDC order. If students board a bus without a face covering/mask, drivers will give them one to wear on the bus. Students who refuse to wear a mask, and do not have a medical reason for doing so, could face possible disciplinary measures as mandated by the SC Department of Education on school districts.
